This morning, Zayo announced the acquisition of CoreXchange. CoreXchange operates two data centers, one at 8600 Harry Hines Blvd which is new for Zayo, and the other at the Dallas Infomart at 1950 N. Stemmons Freeway where Zayo already has space. In all, the deal will give Zayo some 34,000 square feet of interconnection-focused colocation space in Dallas.

Zayo’s zColo business got its start with the Fibernet Telecom Group acquisition. After working out the kinks, they have been replicating the business around the country and now have 27 locations. Texas has apparently been a focus lately, as they also recently bought CoreNAP last summer to enter Austin. And most recently they have been busy down in Miami with an organic buildout.

I keep expecting Zayo’s next deal to be across the Atlantic, where they have that starter loop onto the continent just sitting there ready to bolt on some assets. But as always, they have lots of irons in the fire.
